What this tool does

It helps you work out which career paths are actually worth considering for you, based on the skills you already have, what you can afford to risk, and the sort of working life you want next.

Rather than handing you a long list of jobs to research, it narrows things down to a handful that fit your real situation, so you can stop spinning through options and start looking at a shorter shortlist properly.

Who it is for

It is mainly aimed at people somewhere in the middle of their working life who know the current job is not right, but are not sure what a sensible next move looks like. That might be because the work has stopped paying enough, the hours no longer fit family life, the industry is shrinking, your health has changed, or you simply cannot face another decade doing the same thing.

It is also useful if you have been given plenty of well meaning suggestions from friends and family, and you want something more structured that takes your money situation, age and existing experience into account. It is not a replacement for proper careers advice or financial advice, but it is a good starting point before you book either.

How it works

You answer a short set of questions about your current role, what is pushing you to leave, your skills, your financial constraints and what you want more of in your next job. The tool then returns a plain English summary of career paths that look like a reasonable fit, with a short note on why each one has been suggested and what you would likely need to do to move into it. It takes a few minutes to complete, your answers are not saved, and nothing you enter is shared or used to contact you afterwards.

Treat the results as a prompt for your own thinking. Some suggestions will feel obviously wrong, and that is useful too, because ruling things out is part of working out what you actually want.
